  1. The NETS Standards, also known as ISTE Standards, serve as standards for evaluating the knowledge and skills that students need to develop in order to keep up with a society that is more dependent on technology. The three groups into which the standards are broken down are for students, teachers, and administrators. These specifications ensure that educational institutions use digital tools and capabilities to help students' learning and analysis. These skills will help students as they transition into a career field where technology proficiency is necessary for almost any employment option.

(ISTE Standards | ISTE, n.d.) Understanding how to utilize a piece of technology is no longer adequate in today's society. As they enter the workforce, students will be expected to be able to produce, analyse, and compose using a variety of technology tools. Email's immediate message delivery capabilities have significantly boosted communication. You may contact individuals using other apps like Podcasts, Skype, G-Chat, and others by simply pressing a button! Students will definitely use technology in a variety of ways, according to the ISTE Standards. Students will become proficient in using digital tools for production, communication, and teamwork.

Two of the three sets of standards have the biggest effects on schooling. These two standards (NETS-T and NETS-S) were created separately for instructors and students. These two sets of rules exist to ensure accountability in every area of education. The criteria for educators encourage instructors to take on the role of co-learners and facilitators as they stimulate the development of digital skills among their pupils. The prerequisites for students ensure that they are able to develop, analyse, and communicate using a variety of technology instruments. The ability to use digital technologies for teamwork, communication, and production will be developed among the students ISTE (2014).

    4. Shellika, I would like to commend your mention of the skills which will aid students as they transition into adulthood and become professionals. Another insightful mention was that basic computer skills aren’t enough in this technological era, as students are expected to competent enough to produce, analyse, and compose useful material using a variety of technological tools. You also stated, “Students will become proficient in using digital tools for production, communication, and teamwork.” Which in my opinion is true, as these are the primary uses of technology. Another strong point was the mention of two sets of standards, the standards for teachers, and for students.

  2. What are Educational Technology Standards (ISTE NETS), and why are they important?

In an evolving world with new innovations and inventions daily, it is important to have the teaching and learning process evolve along with these other facets. We need to deviate from just using the traditional approach of "chalk and talk", and push towards a more open and integrated approach. As educators, we need to plan lessons to be very interactive, and one of the best ways of doing this is to include the Educational Technology Standards in our classroom. In 2008, the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) published a set of forward-thinking standards for teachers that focused on using technology to support student learning and creative thinking, design digital-age activities and assessments, model digital work, promote and model digital citizenship, and engage in professional growth and leadership. Trust, T. (2018).

Educational technology standards play an integral role in the lives of students and teachers; technology in education provides students with easy access to information (internet) and fun ways for assessment (games like Kahoot). Technology helps to peek students interest; it is more resourceful and unlimited. When students have a wide variety of educational materials to choose from, they become rounded and creative thinkers, both socially and academically. It is advantageous not only to students but also to educators. Technology in the classroom helps to keep students engaged; students can learn different life skills through the use of technology, and for classes with students that have different learning styles, technology makes teaching a differentiated lesson easier.

ISTE teacher standards set the benchmark for educators and the use of technology. It prepares teachers to teach technology and advanced concepts. Collaboration is also encouraged by teachers. ISTE student standards suggest that students will be engaged in a positive, safe, legal, and ethical environment when using technology, including social interactions online or when using networked devices. Students will demonstrate an understanding of and respect for the rights and obligations associated with using and sharing intellectual property.

    3. Very interesting post Jason. It is so true we are living in an “evolving world” where technology is being used for many different purposes. It goes to show that we as teachers must utilized the available resources that are available at our fingertips. The “chalk and talk” teaching days are really over, and as such we ought to prepare ourselves for the real world where technology is the primary source of engaging our students in how to use their critical thinking skills. You also mentioned that “technology in the classroom helps to keep students engage.” This in fact is true, because students will now become recipient of their own learning where inclusion of all learners will be facilitated.

  5. (ISTE Standards | ISTE, n.d.) The ISTE Standards provide the competencies for learning, teaching, and leading in the digital age, providing a comprehensive roadmap for the effective use of technology in schools worldwide. Grounded in learning science research and based on practitioner experience, the ISTE Standards ensure that using technology for learning can create high-impact, sustainable and equitable learning experiences for all learners. As per information gathered from Applied Education Systems (n.d) ISTE standards are important because they prepare teachers to teach technology and advanced concepts in the classroom. The standards also encourage teachers to communicate with one another for better ideas on how to engage their students. The standards are not only important for teachers, but also for students as they need to be receptive to an education if they’re actually going to learn, it is also important that students know how to conduct themselves properly during online interactions.

According to the ISTE standards for students and teachers (2016); students recognize the rights, responsibilities, and opportunities of living, learning, and working in an interconnected digital world, and they carry themselves in a manner that is safe, legal and ethical. Students create and maintain their digital identity and reputation and are knowledgeable of the permanence of their actions in the online realm. Students also participate in positive, safe, legal and ethical behaviour when using technology, including interactions online or when using devices that are connected to the network. They also show comprehension of and respect for the rights and obligations of using and sharing intellectual property. Another responsibility of the students is to organize their personal data to maintain digital privacy and security and are aware of data-collection technologies used to track their navigation online. As for teachers, they use their knowledge of subject matter, as well as teaching and learning, and technology to facilitate experiences that develop student learning, creativity and innovation in both face-to-face and virtual environments.

  6. Educational technology standards, also known as ISTE NETS (International Society for Technology in Education National Educational Technology Standards), are a set of guidelines that provide a framework for integrating technology into education
These standards were first developed in 1998 and have undergone several revisions since then to keep up with the changing technological landscape.
ISTE NETS are designed to help educators and students effectively use technology tools and resources to enhance teaching and learning. The standards cover six areas: creativity and innovation; communication and collaboration; research and information fluency; critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making; digital citizenship; technology operations and concepts.
The ISTE NETS are important because they provide a roadmap for educators to use technology in a meaningful way that aligns with educational goals. By following these standards, educators can ensure that their lessons incorporate technology in a way that promotes student engagement, critical thinking, and collaboration, additionally, ISTE NETS provides a common language for educators to discuss and share best practices related to educational technology.
The ISTE standards are divided into two categories: Student and Teacher. The ISTE for teachers is as follows:
Facilitate and inspire student learning and creativity, Design and develop digital-age learning experiences and assessments, Model digital-age work and learning, Promote and model digital citizenship and responsibility, and engage in professional growth and leadership.
The ISTE standards for students are:
Empowered learner, Digital citizen, Knowledge constructor, and Innovative designer. These standards aim to equip educators and learners with the necessary skills and knowledge to thrive in a technology-driven world.
In conclusion, ISTE NETS helps prepare students for the demands of the modern workforce, where technology skills are increasingly important. By integrating technology into education and using ISTE NETS as a guide, educators can help equip students with the skills they need to succeed in the 21st century.

  8. What are Educational Technology Standards (ISTE NETS) and why are they important?
What are the ISTE standards for students and teachers?

Let’s first discuss what is educational technology before we state what are the standards. Educational technology is the study and the ethical practice of facilitating learning and improving performance by creating, using, and managing appropriate technological processes and resources. (Januszewski & Molenda pg.3) So educational technology standards are a set of rules known to specify the expected results, skills, and competencies for the successful integration of technology in the classroom. The use of technology in educational contexts can be planned, put into practice, and evaluated using the framework provided by these guidelines for educators, administrators, and technology workers. (Almerich, 2016) ISTE NETS are standards put in place for educational Technology.
NETS stands for National Educational Technology Standards. This was developed by ISTE. The NETS provides a comprehensive framework for integrating technology into education. It covers areas such as creativity and innovation, communication, collaboration and research, and information fluency. (Crafton Hills Education, n/d)
According to Zook, ISTE stands for International Society for Technology in Education Standards. It is basically to promote the use of technology for learning, teaching, and leadership. It covers a wide range of topics including student empowerment, students will take an active role in choosing, achieving, and demonstrating competency in their learning goals that are informed by learning sciences. (Zook, 2021)
The ISTE Standards for students are digital citizenship, students will identify and understand the benefits and responsibilities of living in an interconnected digital world. Knowledge constructor, students will critically curate a variety of resources using digital tools to construct knowledge and make meaningful learning experiences. Innovative designers: to identify and solve problems. Students will be computational thinkers, creative communicators, and global collaborators. The ISTE standards prepare students for evolving technology. (ISTE, n/d)
The ISTE Standards for the teacher are to be a learner, that is by continually improving their practice by learning about new technologies as they arise and learning from others. Leaders: teachers will advocate for equitable access to educational technology, digital access, and learning opportunities to meet the diverse needs of all students. Citizens: educators will inspire students to be a part of the digital world. Collaborators: teachers should make time to work with both colleagues and students to improve practice. Teachers should also be designers, facilitators, and analysts.
So basically, ISTE NETS standards are to help include technology in education to make students advance and be able to utilize technology as it evolves and that is the true reason why these standards are important.

  10. What are Educational Technology Standards (ISTE NETS), and why are they important?

Standards for educational technology set minimum requirements for the fundamental skills needed for teaching and learning in the digital era. These standards create the groundwork for teachers to offer a thorough framework for integrating technology in the classroom. The international society for technology in education (ISTE ) is an organization that focuses on how to teach technology to students of any grade level (Zook, 2017). It is a global community of educators dedicated to providing resources for teachers to implement high expectations for technology. ISTE developed the standards from research to guarantee the highest expectations and sustainability. According to Chris Zook (2017) ITSE standards are created for teachers, students and administrators and are broken into 5 categories of persons; teachers, students, administrative, technology coaches and computer science teachers.

Educational technology standards are standards for the use of technology in the teaching and learning. ISTE provides technology standards for students, educators, educator leaders, coachers, and computational thinking. These standards provide the competencies for learning, teaching and leading in the digital age, providing a comprehensive roadmap for the effective use of technology in schools. Educators utilize these standards to ensure proper use of technology instruction throughout the school year.

The ISTE Standards for teachers provides guidelines to helping students become empowered learners. These standards will deepen a teachers’ practice, promote collaboration with peers, challenging a teacher to rethink traditional approaches and prepare students to drive their own learning. Teachers will facilitate experiences that encourage student learning, creativity, and innovation in both physical and virtual settings by utilizing their expertise in the subject matter, teaching and learning, and technology.

Today’s students must be prepared to thrive in a constantly evolving technological landscape. The student section of the ISTE Standards is designed to empower student voice and ensure that learning is a student-driven process. Students use technology to actively choose, accomplish, and show mastery of their learning objectives, guided by learning the proper use of technology.

  11. What are Educational Technology Standards (ISTE NETS), and why are they important?
Briefly explain the ISTE standards for students and teachers?

ISTE stands for the International Society for Technology in Education. It is a non-profit organization that seeks to promote the integration of technology in teaching and learning. ISTE’s goal is to improve technology use in schools worldwide by using best practices associated with learning and technology to create high-impact, sustainable, scalable and equitable learning experiences for all learners. ISTE is most well-known for creating a set of technology learning and teaching standards for teachers, students, educational leaders and coaches. The goal of these standards is to provide guidelines that help these individuals create and utilize the most effective technology learning environment possible

It is important according to McKinsey data found that students in schools with sufficient technology devices performed better than those without access to technology and high speed internet. EdTech enables teachers to support hybrid learning, which creates an inclusive classroom environment that provides access to learners, no matter their location or ability to physical be present in class.

The ISTE student standards, as educators, students are at the center of everything we do. The student section of the ISTE Standards describes the skills and knowledge they need to thrive, grow and contribute in a global, interconnected and constantly changing society.

The ISTE teacher standards, educators have always held the key to student success. But their role is changing. The educator section of the ISTE Standards defines the digital age skills and pedagogical insights educators need to teach, work and learn.

I found the information cited by McKinsey to be very interesting; students in schools with sufficient technology devices performed better than those without access to technology and high speed internet. This information gives food for thought. It is in fact the reality that we are currently living in a technological age and so technology is now an integral part of the teaching-learning process. As such, persons without access to any form of technology will be at a deficit.

  12. What are Educational Technology Standards (ISTE NETS), and why are they important?
Briefly explain the ISTE standards for teachers and students.

According to Marisa Upson “Educational (Upson, 2023)technology is a field of study that investigates the process of analyzing, designing, developing, implementing, and evaluating the instructional environment and learning materials to improve teaching and learning. It is important to keep in mind that the purpose of educational technology (also referred to as instructional technology) is to improve education” (Upson, 2023).
With the existence of educational technology there are standards that are important to help in the teaching and learning process. According to Chris Zook “International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) formally called formerly known as the National Educational Technology Standards (NETS) is a non-profit organization that seeks to promote the integration of technology in teaching and learning by providing the competencies for learning, teaching and leading in the digital age, providing a comprehensive roadmap for the effective use of technology in schools worldwide.” (Zook, 2023). ISTE is important as it improves technology use in schools worldwide by using best practices associated with learning and technology to create high-impact, sustainable, scalable, and equitable learning experiences for all learners. It helps to guide the technology learning and teaching standards for teachers, students, educational leaders, and coaches as well as helping educators to build skills by integrating computational thinking across all disciplines and with students of all ages.
The ISTE standards for teachers are broken into seven roles that a teacher must fulfill. These standards are; Learner, Leader, Citizen, Collaborator, Designer, Facilitator and Analyst- The educator section of the ISTE Standards defines the knowledge and insights educators need to successfully support students in the achievement of the ISTE Standards for students. This includes designing, facilitating, and analyzing activities and environments that leverage technology to improve student learning. The educator section of the ISTE Standards provides a road map to helping students become empowered learners. These standards will deepen your practice, promote collaboration with peers, challenge you to rethink traditional approaches and prepare students to drive their own learning. Learn how to use the standards in the classroom with the ISTE Standards for Educators
The ISTE standard outlines seven standards for students to follow. These include; Empowered learner, Digital citizen, Knowledge constructor, Innovative designer, Computational thinker, Creative communicator, and Global collaborator. The ISTE Standards for students describe the skills and knowledge students need to thrive, grow, and contribute to an increasingly digital society. These standards include learning how to be responsible and safe online, understanding and employing computational thinking, effectively curating, and evaluating knowledge attained digitally, and using digital tools to successfully communicate with others.

ISTE means International society for Technology in Education. ISTE Standards are Standards set by the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE NETS) to and teaching technology in teaching environments. These Standards are broken into categories that support different individual, from detailing the Standards set for students-facing curriculum to standards that teachers and educational leaders can apply to support the implementation of these standards in their institution. One of the most important ISTE standards for educators is effective teaching and learning strategies. This standard applies to every teacher, but ISTE brings it up for computer science educators .

Briefly explains the ISTE Standards for teachers and students.
The ISTE Standards provide the competencies for learning, teaching and learning in the digital age, providing a comprehensive road map for the effective use of technology in schools world wide. The teacher uses their knowledge of subject matter, teaching and teaching technology to facilitate experiences that advance students learning, creativity, and innovation in both face-to-face and virtual environments. If promote, support, and mode creative and innovative thinking, inventiveness.

Engaging students in exploring real world issues and solving authentic problems using digital tools and resources. This will promote students' reflection using collaborative tools so reveal and clarify students conceptual understanding and thinking, planning, and creative processes.

    1. Shadae is very interesting and informative as it relates to ISTE's and it's many guidelines. I am now learning about the many standards that educators and students alike adhere to. The legal and ethical implications of these standards. Your is well written and put together in highlighting the standards.Looking at the educators standard as in this technological era as facilitator, analyst and collaborator is critical at this stage. You spoke about using these standards to tackle and leverage students learning is of great interest and importance to me a fellow educator. Thank you for sharing these standards.

  17. Good explanation Shadae. It goes to show that teachers plays a very important role in today's learning and teaching of our future generation. Students today need more that just teachers talking to them, they need concrete, hands on experience that will encourage them to learn and be more proactive. This can only be done through facilitators who are eager to create the most flexible learning environment so that students are able to manipulate and utilize the available resources that are available to them. As can be seen, there are many challenges that we as educators face in the classroom, and as such it is vital that we use different strategies to reach our young learners and one way of doing that is, through the use of technology based instructions.

  19. International Society for Technology in Education
The International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE). ISTE is an international organization for professional educator. A global community of education dedicated to providing resources for teachers and students to explore technological strategies. The ISTE provides students, educators, educational leaders, coaches (APSE) and computational thinking to actively use technology as a secondary source of independent learning.
What is the importance of ISTE. The ISTE standards provide five areas at the educational level:
    1. Students
    2. Teacher
    3. Educator leaders
    4. Coaches
    5. Computational thinking
These areas give students the platform on which they can develop skills that may help them to become productive member of society.
In order for ISTE standards to effectively benefit students, the standards must be implemented in the classroom:
    1. Student voice- students are encourage to develop independent thinking, discuss in groups, and communicate with the larger global.
    2. Creativity – student is encouraged, by becoming innovate, exploring new ideas through the use of technology.
    3. Responsibility – students will learn online efficacy; this will provide them the knowledge of navigating online content as our society develop digital world.
    4. Problem Solving- students use technology to solve problem in various settings in real world experiences.
ISTE teacher’s standards prepare teachers to teach technology and use technology in classrooms. Using technology as a second-hand tool for research, communication building and interactive approach to learning educator are encourage to use technology as a teaching partner(aid), which help the teacher to extend his grasps on each learning style in one lesson. (Something that a whiteboard, marker and a teacher on their own cannot do).
The ISTE standards for teacher are divided into seven roles that teachers must incorporate in the classroom on order for ISTE to be successful.
    1. Learner- to be effective educators each teacher must also know how to be a learner.
    2. A leader- teachers are encourage to continually search for opportunity to improve themselves and their classroom, and by activity using and modeling the use of technology. creating an environment for student to use technology as learning aid.
    3. Citizen- this ISTE standard also requires teachers to teach safety, legal, and ethical use of digital tool. Teaching them to manage their personal data to keep it as safe as possible.
    4. Collaborator- teachers must stay up to date with what going on around them about students, parents, and each other.
    5. Designer- teacher must apply instructional principle to their design to get the best result for their student.
    6. Facilitator- teacher must create a balance where engagement, creativity, critical thinking and problem solving, proving a holistic approached for learning.
    7. Analyst- this involves teacher to learn, understand, and apply data to student’s goals teacher gather this data using formative and summative assessments to aid them in planning for students different learning style and needs.
